I know how important it is to stretch our dollar to continue to provide our students with as many opportunities and resources possible. Reflecting on my own experience being an art teacher of 16 years – working with a shrinking department budget and finding time to enrich my curriculum are constant challenges. This made me think if there are others that are feeling the same way.
This curiosity gave me the encouragement to create a project that I believe can address challenges we may face today dealing with issues such as a decreasing budget, lack of time, being new to the teaching profession, ways to implement literacy inside the classroom, and ways to use technology. The Midwest Artist Studios™ Project introduces you to local and regional contemporary artists, provide an in depth look into their studio practice and process as well as to hear them talk about the importance of art education.
The Midwest Artist Studios™ Project enriches your student’s art experience through a series of artist-inspired lesson plans, access to artist videos, gallery of images, and the opportunity for educators to schedule their very own Skype session with our Midwest artists.
I have been using these same lessons in my art classes and I have noticed such an improvement in sharing art, constructive criticism, experimentation, risk-taking, and creating their own artistic voice.
